During this extended spell of time 'cooped' up with the children, there are lots of ways we can alleviate the pressure of these 4 walls collectively caving in on us!
Some ideas involve the clever use of fresh air throughout the day- even if just for a 'breather'.
~ If your children are struggling with the idea of 'lesson time' at home ( as opposed to school), try and take a short walk around the block in the morning before ' teaching time. If the school is within walking distance, it can be a good idea to walk the children to the school, walk past the gates, then back home to start lessons. This sometimes 're-programmes' the childrens' brains into thinking about learning time ( by association).
~ Always try to take a breather throughout the day. Even if it's for an impromptu bug trail, there is always something to look at as a distraction from the rigours of Maths and English ( especially for little ones).
~ For older children, an errand to the shops can be a great way of encouraging them into the realms of fresh air- even if it's just for half an hour. The lack of light and vitamin D in these months can spell disaster for youths physical and mental health. Any window of outdoor activity will help during the day.
~ Any sport or athletic activity which can be incorporated into the daylight hours will keep those positive endorphins going and spirits a little higher than when stuck behind closed doors, hovering over tablets and screens! It's all well and good staying indoors to watch Joe Wicks but as lovely as he is, he doesn't provide the essential ingredient of fresh air! A quick run around a playground or cycle track does the world of good.
